A dog, I have always said, is prose; a cat is a poem.” ~Jean Burde
We lost a dear friend today. Sixteen years ago, when Nate was a boy, the two of us drove to the Royal Oak Animal Shelter after school. We were “just looking” and had no intention of adopting another cat. But we saw this gorgeous litter of kittens — half Siamese and half tabby. We adopted one on the spot and named her Emma Lou Lilypad.
She lived a long life, never causing a minute of trouble. She loved eating tuna for lunch and napping in the sun. She was devoted to her owners and never forgot Nate, even after he left for college. She was one of the finest cats who ever owned us, and we will miss her.
I just know Leo was there to greet her. Hugs to you, Cindy.
Thank you, everyone, for all the nice comments here and in private email (and on Doug’s Facebook page). It has been a very sad weekend. Emma was ill, in “hospice” for the past couple of months, but she seemed to enjoy even her last few weeks of life, without pain. She will be missed.
Oh Cindy, I am so sorry. As quiet as cats are, when they no longer pad around the house on their little fog feet the stillness is crushing. Much sympathy on Emma Lou Lilypad’s passing.
Thank you, Debra. It has been a rough weekend. I will visit your blog soon.
Cindy, Doug, and Nate, sorry for your loss of Emma. Memories will have to do for now.
Thank you, Jane. We appreciate hearing from you.
So so sorry Cindy. Cats can be exquisitely attuned companions and there is such a vacuum when they leave us behind. She was a beautiful girl and it sounds like a great life. Hugs.
MY wishes that the memory of Emmy will be a little comfort to your loss.
Oh. *hugs*
Cindy I’m so sorry to hear about Emma! The best cat that ‘owned’ us for awhile was a siamese/tabby mix. My condolences to you & Doug and Nate.
I’m so sorry, Cindy. It is so hard to lose a beloved pet – they bring so much love, comfort and company to our lives. Sending hugs xoxo
Sunshine, tuna fish and a boy! I’d say Emma had a charmed life.
Lucky girl, she was, to own people like you!
She’ll be waiting at the bridge.
Yours aye,
Betty
Thank you, Betty, I love the bridge metaphor, cousin!
