Photographic memory

Photography takes an instant of our time, altering life by holding it still.” — Dorothea Lange
If you graduated from high school in the 1960s or ’70s, you probably have a sepia-toned, hand-tinted graduation portrait of yourself stashed away in a family album.
When I was growing up, my mother worked as a commercial artist for Bill Williams Studio, and was responsible for hand-tinting hundreds of portraits over the years. The photo of me (at left) was taken in 1972, and painted by my mother. This week’s Royal Oak Patch column is a memory of those years as well as a tribute to my mother.
Speaking of my mother, I hope you’ll send out your best wishes, prayers, and healing vibes for a speedy recovery. In the hospital for over a week, she’s currently scheduled for pacemaker surgery on Monday afternoon. — CL

Let me be the first to send good vibes and special wishes to your mom. Fly through the surgery and get well soon.
When I read Bill Williams studio I had to smile. They also did our senior class pictures.
Your mother’s painting is truly lovely.

Thanks so much, everyone! My mother is recovering at Beaumont Hospital — the pacemaker surgery/insertion went well, although she woke up a bit confused this evening. Mom will recover in the hospital for another day or two, then go to a nursing rehab center for a few days. Crossing fingers that she will be able to return to her condo, all said and done…Thank you again for all of your kind support.

Oh Cindy, I am so sorry your mom needed a pacemaker but what amazing devices they are. I wish her an easy and complete recovery. And I send you both positive vibes and support. xo jj

I hope your mom is okay! Love the tinted pic of you. It could be a cover to one of those YA novels I used to read back then.
