Tumbling into fall
Cindy on September 15th, 2009

“The foliage has been losing its freshness through the month of August, and here and there a yellow leaf shows itself like the first gray hair amidst the locks of a beauty who has seen one season too many.” — Oliver Wendell Holmes
Returning from a family visit in Chicago, I realized this morning that I’ve fallen way behind in my blogging. Since early September, I haven’t had much time to visit favorite blogs — nor have I had a spare minute to edit a new post I wrote about “rediscovering” high school classmates on Facebook. While I was away, my mother’s dentist called to ask if I noticed that my mother is showing additional signs of dementia — so dealing with that prickly issue remains a priority. Coincidentally, a column I wrote about caring for my mom during another health crisis appears in the current issue of Michigan Women’s Forum. Meanwhile, I’m preparing for some local writing events that start up next week. The blogging will have to wait while real life unfolds. Please don’t think I’ve forgotten you … I’ll be back soon! – CL

Thinking of you and glad to hear you’re busy and well.

I understand how fast times flies….
And you have a very good dentist to actually CALL you about your Mom. That’s impressive and caring on his part. Sadly that doesn’t happen as often as it should.
Your article at Michigan’s Women’s Forum was terrific, as usual.
Take your time and catch yourself up. We’ll be here when you get back.

I can hardly wait to hear what you have to say about reconnecting with school friends on Facebook. It’s been my recent experience and has added another layer of brightness to my life.

Oh fall.. I look forward to it , and deny it all in a blur of shorter days that suddenly turn into October.
My list of things to get to is longer.
I am curious to read what you wrote about dementia. I think this may be a sad turn in the complicated mother/daughter story of me.
It changes my perspective in a way of course, but I wonder how it will alter hers.

I’m glad I’m one of the high school classmates you’ve reconnected with on Facebook. You and Doug both have accomplished everything I expected of you all those years ago–and then some. It makes me proud. Please don’t ever stop blogging!

Deb,
I am proud of you too. Thank you so much for your kind words. Funny thing is, as you’ll see from my upcoming post about Facebook, I never really believed in myself in high school … always felt like an odd duck. I suppose a lot of us did, back then? –CL
