Celebrate freedom!

I love my freedom.  I love my America.  ~Jessi Lane Adams

Happy Fourth of July, everyone! Throughout this patriotic holiday weekend, I’ll be remembering the sacrifices made by our founding fathers and mothers — and by all the men and women who’ve fought in our armed services — to preserve our liberty.

That liberty includes my right to vote and participate in political elections, thanks to the women’s suffrage movement in the last century. I’m also grateful for the right to worship as I choose without persecution. And lastly, as a writer and journalist, I’m especially thankful for my freedom of expression. What freedoms do you treasure most? — CL

Much the same as yours, especially the freedom of expression. And utilizing that through much writing, I’m especially enjoying the pursuit of happiness.

    Happy 4th to you :)

thank you for this simple post. you opened my eyes today to see things in a new way. i often find myself quite cynical about our government and our country. you pointed out three very basic freedoms for which i am grateful as well. today, i am going to keep them in the forefront of my mind and in my heart.

i also agree with joanne–freedom of expression. We creative types have often been persecuted, banned, or imprisoned in other countries. how blessed we are to express our passion in our unique ways–writing, painting, etc.

for me, freedom of movement is important too. i can go where i want to go without restrictions. without someone stopping my car or requiring me to show identification. i can move, change cities, change countries.

yes, many blessings to celebrate today. thank you again, my friend!

Thank YOU, Jan, for reminding me about “freedom of movement.” That’s huge for me. Before I had both hips replaced in 2002, due to osteoarthritis, I’d gotten to the point where I couldn’t get around without 2 canes or a walker. And I was only in my mid-forties. Top-notch hip replacement surgery gave me back my life and the freedom to move normally again. (Which reminds me that we have excellent surgeons in this country as well.)

Hmmm….so many things we take for granted eh? Freedom to protest openly, women’s rights, gay marriage- just being able to be free to do just about anything- what an incredible luxury! We are very spoiled. Thanks for reminding.

The freedom to have my own thoughts and spiritual beliefs and to express them openly (or not, as I choose); as a woman, the freedom to control my own finances and business affairs, and to decide whether or not to get married and/or have children; the freedom to travel freely, live where I wish, work as I wish; the freedom to gather together freely with people of like minds and hearts.
