I'm not entirely sure where I am on the continuum here as I'm a year-round ice tea drinker.
I do like a nice pot of hot mint tea after a big meal, though.
My pet peeve with restaurants and hot tea are with the places that give you hot water in those little metal creamers. The gold standard for me are places that give you your hot tea water in a squat ceramic pot with a lid.

Wonderful essay, Cindy! I stand my my teas.
Thank you for sharing such warm memories of your grandmother. The difference between tea's comfort and caffeine's charge is palpable.

This just in, and I have to share it. I was having lunch at Macy's yesterday and enjoyed (for the first time) a tea bag from the Revolution tea company. It was an oolong tea in a lovely fabric bag -- probably the best I've ever had. Macy's will be stocking soon, I was told. -- CL

What beautiful memories you have associated with "taking tea." I am a devout coffee drinker who is taking tea more regularly these days. I enjoy the preparation of the teapot, while I wait for the kettle to whistle. I relish the first hot sip. It's soothing and nurturing, and I always feel better after a hot cup of tea.

Haha a very enjoyable article about tea! It is quite true, coffee is fast but tea takes lots of time to prepare and drink, it is a kind of art really.

I like to think that frame of mind, particularly a peaceful one, has far-reaching health effects. Tea is wonderful for inducing peaceful moments. Thanks for sharing.

I also had a (part) Scot granny who made me tea as a child. I still use her teapots. Our last time together before she died was spent over tea at my house.
