How to get clear

“More important than the quest for certainty is the quest for clarity.” — Francois Gautier

The answers to our most difficult career questions are rarely “clear as glass.”  Sometimes we need to pull back and get quiet in order to gain fresh perspective. Curious? Read more in my January 2009 Michigan Women’s Forum column. – CL

That was lovely, Cindy. And Rilke, you made me remember the first time I read that book. It seemed like he was writing those letters to me.

    Cindy H,
Thank you! You know, I keep going back to “Letters to a Young Poet” and finding something new, something I overlooked in earlier readings. I believe every writer should read that book every two years or so! — Cindy La Ferle

Thanks, Cindy. I noted at MWF: As a woman contemplating career options after a hiatus for family, I’m trying to get comfortable living the questions. Thanks for putting it into words for me.

    Hi there!
Beautiful post, but as you know, you’ve quote two of my favorite sources of wisdom. Lovely… Might I add a word about patience? In my Buddhist studies in recent years, I’ve learned that the Buddha taught that the antidote to anger was patience. If you think about it, it’s true. Patience, duly cultivated, helps us see everything more clearly. And takes the possibility of a response sourced in anger completely out of the picture…
    Sending love…

Wow. Another post/essay I totally needed to read especially today. I have Letters by Rilke and will take look at the other book, The Woman’s Book of Confidence, so thanks for the recommendation.
I have a difficult time being “on hold” so to speak. I feel out of control as I want to be able to know the future so I can act accordingly in the now. But there is no way to know the future. All you do is be. I do know this and remind myself when I need to, but it’s s always a challenge to practice. I’d love to know who in this world has mastered it.
